How to sew by hand - Sewing technical tutorial

Slip stitches are hand-sewn stitches used to close openings, hems, or bias bindings, creating an almost invisible seam by stitching alternately on one edge and then on the opposite edge.

They provide a neat finish and avoid the use of a machine topstitch that may be too visible.

To begin, thread a short, fairly fine needle with a thread that matches the color of the fabric.

  1. Stitch the edge of the fabric to be closed from the outside to the inside.
  2. Stitch the opposite edge from the inside to the outside.
  3. Pull the thread to form the first stitch.
  4. Repeat the previous steps, making evenly spaced stitches.

This method ensures a refined finish and is a great way to create a neat, professional look without visible machine stitching.
